Give each file the time it needs.
The public version is being prepared for the Chrome Web Store. These instructions describe the upcoming OAuth edition. Browsing this website does not require a login; using the extension will require Google authorization for your selected files.
Start a timer
- Open Doc Egg Timer and select “Connect Google Drive”. Choose the account where your files are stored.
- Create a Google Doc, Sheet, Slide deck, or Drawing, or select “Choose or upload an existing file”.
- Choose one hour, one day, one week, or thirty days. Existing-file timers start only after you confirm the selected file.
Use a CSV in Google Sheets
Start a timer for the CSV, then use “Open as linked Google Sheet” on its timer. Doc Egg Timer creates the Sheet and records both file IDs under the same expiry. Conversions made using Google Drive’s separate “Open with” control are independent and do not automatically inherit a timer in the public edition.
Files uploaded directly into Drive
When Doc Egg Timer detects a completed drag-and-drop upload, you can choose a duration or “Don’t auto-delete”. Enabling a timer opens Google’s file picker so you can explicitly select the uploaded file. Only that confirmed file is scheduled.
When cleanup happens
Cleanup is designed to run on the service even with Chrome closed, with a target of moving files to Trash within five minutes after expiry. The public service is not live yet and this timing still needs live testing. Network problems, revoked permissions, service outages, or a queue of due timers can delay cleanup. The extension shows failures that need attention. The countdown is an expiry target, not a guarantee of exact-second deletion.
Cancel, restore, or disconnect
“Cancel timer” stops future cleanup for that timer and every linked file. It does not restore files already in Trash or remove the filename prefix. Restore files from Google Drive Trash. “Disconnect and stop all timers” stops pending cleanup, deletes your live account records, and attempts to revoke the app’s Google authorization.
If a request fails
Check that the extension is connected to the same Google account as the selected file. Use the file picker to grant access to existing files. If a timer says “Reconnect”, connect the account again. For an incomplete file request, retry the same creation request or cancel it before starting again.
